The Vestavia Wrestling Club (VWC) was formed as a civic association under
the Vestavia Parks and Recreation board in 2006 with the adoption of the
current by-laws.The growth of the VWC
has grown from 20 wrestlers to 100 wrestlers over a 4 year period.As the program has grown the demand from the
community to provide new wrestling opportunity has increased.Historically VWC has been a 100% volunteer
organization.
The demands of the program have reached a level that now required a dedicated
coach that spends 100% of their time to continue to the growth and success of
the program.
The board is currently exploring possibilities for new facilities.This will include all options of lease, buy
or build.No decision have made at the
time this document was written.
In 2009 the Board of Directors developed the strategic plan outlined in this
document.
Mission Statement:
The mission of the VWC is to provide the youth of Alabama the opportunity to
learn, develop, grow and enjoy wrestling at highly competitive level. VWC
offers 3 levels of wrestling for ages 6-19:
1)
Youth program
2)Year around training
3)Elite training with the opportunity to attend
national tournaments
VWC is located in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. VWC is dedicated to preparing
children for life's experiences through the sport of wrestling. We promote the
values of sportsmanship, discipline, integrity, self-esteem, physical and
mental conditioning, with an overriding goal of having fun.
The VWC demands a high degree of ethical conduct by
all its coaches, players, volunteers, and parents so that it provides a good
example for the community, the opponents, and it's participants, thus helping
their growth to adulthood. The VWC plans to cooperate with the current wrestling
programs operating in Jefferson and surrounding counties in Alabama, as well as
all official junior high and high school teams. In accomplishing these goals,
the VWC will provide our wrestlers with additional exposure to the sport of
wrestling thereby enhancing their opportunity to wrestle at the junior high and
high school level or beyond.
Vision:
1.Establish an elite wrestling program for
the state of Alabama
2.Merge
the youth, year around and elite programs to provide a comprehensive program.
3.Provide
a wrestling program that can develop a wrestler from ages 6 to 19
4.Provide
(folk style, free style and greco style wrestling opportunities)
5.Provide
a dedicated wrestling facility with enough space for 4 mats, weights and
showers.Currently VWC is using the
wrestling room at Vestavia High School.Due to the growth of the program over the past 4 years the need to find
a large facility is required.
6.Provide
a full time coach that will instill character and be a role model for our kids
Wrestling Goals and Objectives:
1.Develop
and maintain a club which promotes the sport of wrestling therefore developing a
feeder program for the local high school and junior high school teams.
2.Offer
a program that focuses on teaching wrestling technical skills, conditioning and
strength training activities while having fun!
3.To
be financially sound and provide affordable coaching to all those who are
willing and able to make a commitment to our club.
4.Promote
family involvement through volunteer development.
5.Provide
coaching of the highest quality available and use other resources that enhance individual
wrestler development.
6.Be
an example of class and quality, conducting ourselves in an honorable and
sportsmanlike manner.
7.Strive
to seek out the strongest competition. Strong competition helps improve and
reveal our weaknesses.
